DOHA: There are only 250 ISO certified companies in Qatar, and among all the sectors, industrial sector has the highest potential to improve its quality, Mohammed Saleh Al Kuwari, President of Gulf Development Centre (GDC) said in a press meeting.

The meeting was called by Barwa Real Estate Company to announce its participation as a strategic partner in the upcoming Sixth Gulf Conference for Quality Management, titled: "Quality and Institutional Development". The conference will be organized by the GDC which will take place on January 29, 2013, at Doha Sheraton Hotel.

The one-day conference intends to promote a culture of quality and emphasize the importance of quality systems as an effective tool in the services of society, and its role in achieving the customers' requirement and satisfaction.

Apart from highlighting the factors responsible in the development of institutional performance, the conference also aims to discuss the experiences of local and regional markets for institutional development in all the sectors of the economy.

Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Board Member and Group CEO, said: "We are proud to be sponsoring the Sixth Gulf Conference for Quality Management. It is an exclusive opportunity that brings all the leaders of the field from the GCC countries together on one platform".

Asked to comment about the objective of supporting the conference, the CEO said: "We want to set a benchmark and segregate the real estate industry in Qatar. Barwa is an ISO certified real estate company which meets the international standards."

Barwa will be showcasing its activities and programmes in quality management through an exhibition which will be held as part of the conference.

Moreover, departments of Barwa Real Estate and Waseef, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate and one of the largest fully integrated asset management service companies in Qatar, had won the ISO 9001 Certificate during the year 2012 as a reward for their commitment to implement high standards of quality management throughout their companies.

GDC works in qualifying quality systems in ministries, organizations, and companies to comply with the requirements of the International Standard ISO 9001:2008, as well as laboratory quality systems to comply with the requirements of the International Standard ISO17025:2005.
