Muscat: The National Ferries Company (NFC) has plans to start marine transport between the provinces of Muscat governorate, according to Mahdi Bin Mohammad Al Abdwani, CEO of the company.
In a statement to Oman News Agency the NFC CEO said that the company would back a comprehensive traffic study carried out for the Muscat Governorate on the short-, medium- and long-term period up to 2030.
The study, which was recently completed by Muscat Municipality in a tie up with various government agencies, came out with several recommendations including the sea transport with an aim to alleviate the increasing traffic congestion in Muscat.
“The project will encourage mass transportation and boost tourism sites along the Muscat coast,” he said.
He said that the proposed boats will be provided with features and technical specifications that suit the Omani marine environment.
Al Abdwani hoped that the service will be implemented in Musandam governorate to cover the residential areas in the provinces of Musandam.
However, he added that the success of the service would depend on land transport facility to and from the marine terminals.
