Muscat (ONA) - A session of official-level talks was held at the Ministry of Transport and Communications yesterday between the Sultanate of Oman and Yemen.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Harthy, minister of transport and communications, led the Omani side while Eng. Abdul Malik Suleiman Al Ma'alami headed the Yemeni delegation.
At the beginning of the session, Sheikh Al Harthy welcomed the visiting delegation.
The Yemeni minister commended the Sultanate's continuous support to Yemen.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries with emphasis on communications, information technology and postal services related areas.
The two sides also discussed the two countries' regional link through fibre-optics at Al Ghadha-Al Mazouna and Al Ghaidha-Sarfeet. In a statement made to the press, following the end of the session, Sheikh Al Harthy said "the two sides work closely to strengthen their existing cooperative relations and to explore new areas of mutual interest".
He further stated that he was hopeful that more cooperation would take place between the two sisterly countries.
With regards to postal services, Sheikh Al Harthy said the two countries were currently exploring new means of cooperation. He added that following the issuance of the royal decree to establish Oman Posts Company, the post services in Oman would improve in the near future. Sheikh Al Harthy also commented on the involvement of Omantel as an investor in the Yemeni communications market by saying that this environment establishes ground for further cooperation between the two countries.
The Omani side in the session of talks comprised Sheikh Saud bin Suleiman Al Nabhani, undersecretary for communications at the Ministry of Transport and Communications; Eng. Salim bin Mohammed Al Nu'aimy, ministry undersecretary for transport; Eng. Mohammed bin Ali Al Wohaibi, executive president of Oman Telecommunications Comp-any (Omantel); Dr A'mir bin Awad Al Rowas, executive director of Oman Mobile; Nashiaa bint Saud Al Kharousi, managing director of the Telecommunications Regulating Authority; Ahmed bin Saleh Al Ma'wali, director-general of posts and Ahmed bin Saleh Al Zedjali, director-general of administrative and financial affairs.
The Yemeni side comprised the delegation accompanying the minister and the Yemeni ambassador to the Sultanate.
l Meanwhile, the Yemeni minister yesterday visited the Oman Fibre Optics Company in Rusayl Industrial Estate (RIE) and toured its different divisions. He also visited Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), where he listened to a briefing on the services provided by KOM to the hosted enterprises.
