MUSCAT -- Strategic and technical issues directly affecting Oman's oil and gas industry will be discussed at a regional conference on oil and gas tomorrow. The Oil and Gas West Asia conference, which will be held parallel to an exhibition at the Oman International Exhibition Centre on April 9 and 10, will examine the new techniques being applied by oil major Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to enhance oil production in difficult fields and emerging opportunities in liquefied natural gas sector.
Organised under the patronage of Dr Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif al Rumhy, the keynote speakers of the event include John Malcolm, Managing Director, Petroleum Development Oman, Ahmad Ali al Sayeh, Chief Executive Officer of Dolphin Energy and Glenn Vangolenn, General Manager of Occidental Oman. The important papers at the Middle East Energy Forum include 'New Steam Injection Techniques in Fractured
Carbonate Reservoirs' by Sami A R Baqi, PDO's Steam Project Manager at Qarn Alam and 'Comprehensive Reservoir Management Approach to Hydrocarbon Fields' by Dr M Mugheiry of Daleel Petroleum. Other important presentations are on the performance of Oman LNG, gas pipeline infrastructure and environmental issues.
The conference will serve as a platform for exploring a wide range of business opportunities in the region and for discussing recent developments such as new ventures and investments, corporate strategies, and the latest in energy law and finance. The forum's conference committee is comprised mainly of experts from the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Petroleum Development Oman, Oman LNG, and OPAL. 'Exploring New Opportunities in Energy-Rich Arabia' has been chosen as the theme of the conference to reflect the realities in today's business environment.
The major challenges for the industry primarily involve finding new petroleum resources and optimising their recovery while prioritising safety and environmental considerations.
The Middle East Energy Forum 2006 will feature eminent keynote speakers, poster sessions, and discussion panels covering important issues related not just to the oil and gas industry but to the region's energy industry as a whole.
