Muscat, May 24, 2005 (WAM) -- Oman has ratified Tuesdayagreement on maps of its common border demarcation with the UAE.
"The detailed map of the border demarcation agreement betweenthe UAE and Oman for the border sector stretching from Umm Zamoolto the East of Aqeedat has been ratified here today (Tuesday),May 24, 2005," a press release issued in Muscat said.It may be recalled that the agreement was signed onMay 1, 1999 in the Omani town of Sohar during the visit to Omanby the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his meetingwith Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed.
Major General Saif Abdullah Al Sha'afar, Interior MinistryUnder Secretary, signed the map on behalf of the UAE, whilehis Omani counterpart, Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, signedthe map for Oman.
This sector of the border had already been demarcatedby virtue of agreements signed in 1959 and 1960 between SheikhShakhbout bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sultan Saeed bin Taimour.
