MUSCAT -- Qalhat LNG SAOC has been nominated, among very few other international LNG companies, for the prestigious 2006 CWC-World Gas Intelligence LNG Award.

The nomination for the prestigious award is in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the development of the LNG industry in 2006. This international acknowledgement was announced alongside the Seventh World LNG summit for 2006 in Rome in a special ceremony last week attended by senior members of the company.

In its seventh year, the world LNG summit has established itself on a truly global scale LNG event, playing host to senior international LNG executives and strategic decision makers from over 37 countries. Harib bin Abdullah Al Kitani, general manager and CEO of Qalhat LNG, said on this occasion: "It is a great honour and privilege for Qalhat LNG to be short-listed among the best LNG companies in the world and we are grateful to CWC for this prestigious acknowledgement."

He added that the success of Qalhat LNG is a proof of the high reputation and respect the government of Oman and the shareholders have in the international arena. Qalhat LNG has achieved this nomination of the magnificent classification for its world class achievements one of the best international project financing terms in the year 2005 and having completed the project ahead of schedule; Qalhat LNG also managed to complete the project with a world-class HSE record of 20 million man hours without any lost time injury; and employed Omani manpower during the construction stages of the projected accounted for 38 per cent.

Kitani said that in a span of less than one year, LNG from Qalhat LNG has been supplied to our partners and customers over a wide market area covering Spain, Japan, Korea, India and Taiwan. This is a great global achievement for a new Omani company.

It is noteworthy that Qalhat LNG was established in 2003 and owns the third train in the LNG complex in Qalhat in the wilayat of Sur.

The government of the Sultanate owns 46.84 per cent equity while Oman LNG has 36.8 per cent, Union Fenosa Gas of Spain 7.36 per cent and Itochu Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and Osaka Gas of Japan each owns 3 per cent of the company, making it a truly international venture.

Most of Qalhat LNG production has been contracted to Union Fenosa Gas of Spain and Mitsubishi and Osaka Gas of Japan, fulfilling the existing long term purchase agreements.
