MUSCAT: The state-of-the-art fully automatic Atyab Industrial Bakery, under the management of Atyab Investments, will shortly start operations with the launch of the first phase which will constitute the production of sliced bread, buns/samoon and Arabic bread.
Talking exclusively to the Times of Oman, Ali Habaj, chief executive of Oman Flour Mills, said, "The bakery, located in Barka, is currently undergoing trial production. The fully automated bakery, sprawling a production area of 30,000 square metres, will initially start with three lines comprising a variety of bread, buns and Arabic bread lines."
"We thought about setting up an international level industrial bakery in the Sultanate of Oman under the management of Oman Flour Mills more than six years ago forecasting a tremendous potential for it not only in Oman but also in the region. What we see today is the result of our vision."
Justifying the need for such a large, high-tech bakery, Ali notes, "If you take a look at the bakery industry in Oman, it lags far behind countries like Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates in terms of quality and variety. Once Atyab Bakery starts operations, people will get a taste of much superior quality to Saudi Arabia or the UAE. The bakery will use the latest baking innovations to produce both fresh and frozen bakery products and confectionery items."
Commissioned at a total investment RO15 million, the bakery, in the first phase, will have an hourly production capacity of 24,000 buns, 5000 sliced breads and 12,000 Arabic breads.
Second phase
The second phase, slated to go online during the second quarter of this year, would see the addition of several automated production lines with capabilities to produce numerous varieties of cakes, puffs, muffins, croissants and sweets.
The timing of this bakery is ideal to capitalise on the growing demand. Taking production capacity into account, and anticipated supply and demand, Atyab Bakery expects annual sales of over $20 million. "This is the only set up in the region which is totally hands-free, meaning it is fully automatic.
Usually bakeries are manual or semi-automatic as automatic bakeries are very expensive and require highly specialised skilled people to run them. Atyab Bakery has made sure no cost or efforts were spared in order to make this one of the most efficiently run setup in the region," he added.
Ali further says, "The frozen facility which we are setting up will equip us to cater to far flung markets. We plan to export to the other GCC States, Africa, and a host of other countries as shell life for frozen items is substantial."
Having been built on the most modern hygiene and quality conditions, Atyab Bakery will have six different quality and hygiene certifications once fully operational.
