MUSCAT: Attachés assigned to the staff of diplomatic missions in seven countries will meet Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, government of Oman, today and tomorrow at his office at the Ministry of Education.
Interaction of cultural attachés with the undersecretary and later with the students and parents, and also officials from the Higher Education Services and other government agencies is an annual meeting to discuss issues pertaining to education of Omani students in foreign institutions.
They will interact with issues that came up during the last academic year and will also deliberate on improving the services.
Participating countries include the UAE, India, Egypt, the UK, the US, Jordan and Australia. Besides the meeting, cultural attachés will meet students and parents at Muscat Holiday Inn on July 27. On July 28, cultural attachés will meet the directors of Officers of Higher Education Services at Holiday Inn, Muscat. The series of meetings will conclude with the cultural attachés meeting with different government officials at Holiday Inn Muscat.
The last three such events have yielded good results in improving the situation of getting education abroad. The ministry is hopeful that the fourth edition will also hammer out the problems facing the students and will make their student life smooth.
The role of the cultural attaché is therefore very important in helping students overcome any obstacles and prepare for and organise all their education and settlement needs, in terms of choosing the right university (that are dealing with cultural office) for their courses. Thousands of Omanis go abroad to study. Also, the Ministry of Higher Education continues to send students on scholarships abroad. There are currently Omanis in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the UK, France and Germany. There are two categories of sponsorship, full scholarships, and partial scholarships.
