MUSCAT -- Oman Air resumed its normal flights to Bangkok with effect from yesterday. The national carrier had suspended all scheduled flights to Thailand on November 26 owing to the disorder that led to the closure of the two airports in the city. The Corporate Communications and Media (CC & M) Department of Oman Air said that after conducting a comprehensive security and infrastructure review of Suvarnabhumi Airport, the company was now resuming operations according to normal schedules. The airline operated three relief flights from U-Tabao Airport, and one from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. More than 1,100 stranded Oman Air passengers were evacuated through these flights operated on November 29 and 30 and December 1.
"As instructed by the government, Oman Air sent a special flight on December 4 to Bangkok to bring back the Omani passengers stranded there. The Government wanted to make sure that all Omani citizens return home before the Eid holidays. The special flight from Bangkok was operated in coordination with the Sultanate's embassy in Thailand," the statement added. On their return, the citizens and their families extended their deepest gratitude to HM the Sultan for the steps taken to ensure their safe return. Commending His Majesty on the magnanimous gesture, they also lauded the efforts of the government in facilitating the safe return of all nationals back to the Sultanate.
