Muscat: The second Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Conference and Exhibition, 'OHS - A Strategic Business Approach', will be inaugurated by Dr Ali bin Talib Al Hinai, the Under Secretary for Planning Affairs, Ministry of Health, today at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

The second in the series of OHS Conference and Exhibitions, the two day event is being organised by Al Mada International Exhibitions in association with Oman Society of Contractors.

Speaking about the Exhibition, Saeed bin Sultan bin Yarub Al Busaidi, Managing Director of Al Mada International Exhibitions said: "The OHS 2013 is organised with the active support of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and other major Governmental Ministries and Authorities." Omran is the Gold sponsor. Qalhat LNG, Port of Sohar and Oman LNG are silver sponsors. Times of Oman and Shabiba are the media sponsors.

 Speaking about Oman Society of Contractor's (OSC) association and partnership for OHS 2013, the Chief Executive Officer of OSC, Salim Talib Al Sheedi said OSC has always strived to encourage and implement occupational health and safety measures in the industry.

"This association is in continuation with our policy to uphold the contractors' commitment towards occupational health and safety.

In continuation with OSC's efforts, we will announce the calling of entries for the second HSE Awards 2013 to be presented next month. The awards will be presented at the IOSH Oman launch next month, on April 22, 2013," he further added.

Officials from international organisations such as ILO, ALO, WHO, RoSPA are among the speakers delivering conference papers, which will provide insight into the latest developments and international standards on OHS.

Dr. Issa Al Shuaili  from National Committee  for Occupational Health and Safety, Dr. Nabil Watfa from International Labour Organisation (ILO), Roger Marks, National Safety Council (NSC), Rob Burgon from Royal Society for Prevention of Accident (RoSPA),  Dr. Said Arnaout from World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Rania Rouchdie, Arab Labour Organisation (ALO), Peter Hamel, Shaleem Petroleum,  N Porchelvan from Galfar Engineering & Contracting LLC,  Khalifa Al Maskari from Modern Laboratories  LLC  (MODAL-Oman) and John Punter from Oxy Oman are the speakers presenting papers on the two days conference.
