MUSCAT -- Muscat Municipality recently distributed new types of rubbish bins for waste segregation on the Qurum Beach, as a pioneer project, to be expanded to cover all the beaches in the city. Three new types of bins, one for papers, the second for metal and the third for other types on waste have been distributed.
This is part of Muscat Municipality's continued efforts to enhance environmental awareness amongst the citizens and residents, and to achieve its objectives in recycling and safe disposal of waste, and promote the culture of recycling and limiting the hazardous impact of waste on the environment and public health. This comes within the framework adopted to translate the slogan "Muscat in our hearts ... let's keep it clean".
The objective of distributing rubbish bins is to involve the public in this effort, and increase awareness of the importance of segregation of waste, which is now of great concern to all the communities around the world. Muscat Municipality calls on all the Qurum Beach visitors to co-operate and use the bins properly, and dispose of their rubbish according to instructions posted on the bins, in order to protect the public health.
In order to ensure clean beaches in Muscat, the Directorate of Health Affairs of the municipality will soon employ new and modern equipment designed for beach cleaning, and fitted with the latest technology to participate in the effort of cleaning the beaches and reducing the impact of waste. The new equipment feature the ability to clean dry and wet beaches, and will automatically collect the small rubbish left along the beaches, including cigarette butts, glass and metal pieces, removal of alga and will level the ground after cleaning, leaving it comfortable for strolling or enjoying the beach.
The new equipment is highly efficient in completing the work in record times, compared with the traditional method.
