DUBAI: Public parks employees will be safer on the roads now thanks to a new uniform that will enable drivers to see them from a distance.

The Public Parks and Horticulture Department has recently changed the green colour uniform to yellow considering its characteristics, which will be more easily from a far distance and also have the ability to cool down the body.

“In the past, we used to have some incidents where our staff was hit by drivers because their green uniforms camouflaged with their surroundings. But our new uniforms will not only provide them more safety, but also help them cool down,” said Mohammad Al Awadhi, Head of Horticulture and Parks Department at Dubai Municipality.

“The new uniforms are more secure and will provide better safety for our gardeners who have to work not only in parks but along the roads as well,” explained Al Awadhi.

The new uniform has so far been distributed to 1,800 workers in the agricultural field.

Engineer Taleb Mohammad Julfar, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture Department, said that this change in colour and quality of uniforms has been implemented based on scientific research on the most suitable dress for basic level workers in the agricultural field.

“According to a recent study we carried out, the comfortable uniform will boost the productivity, health and confidence in workers, which in turn help the civic body achieve its vision to create an excellent city that provides essence of success and comfort of sustainable living,” said Julfar.

Abdul Rahman, who has been working at the municipality’s public parks department for last 20 years, expressed how safe his job has become as a result of the introduction of the new uniforms. “Now we are very happy as the new colour changed our life saving us from risks of invisibility and hot weather.”
