The general committee of the Muharraq Municipal Council is expected to take its new logo to the council meeting on next Wednesday to effect changes that members may propose. The suggestions of people to changes in the logo would be welcome, committee added.

The changes suggested by the councillors and the people would be considered and carried out before it is approved by the council. The final logo in two colours, would then be sent to the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.

The new logo in its present form, according to a council spokesperson, has a flag of Bahrain in the shape of a dhow sail and the façade of Shaik Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa's house, eight pearls that show the eight areas of the council and a silhouette of the control tower.

Explaining the details, the spokesperson said that the façade was chosen by Mohammed Jassim Hamada, chairman of the Council. He said that the façade portrayed ancient Muharraq.

Shaik Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa (1869 - 1932) ruled Bahrain with Muharraq as the the capital. The silhouette of the control tower showed modernity.

The logo is to be done in two colours.

He said that the previous council chose the Bahrain flag in the shape of a dhow sail, 10 pearls representing 10 areas - because earlier Muharraq was divided into 10, and later reduced to eight - a wind tower representing the architecture of Bahrain. Their choice would have been approved and finalised had they not run out of time.

The logo was taken up for consideration by the present council only duing the second session, with Abdulnasser, Al Mahmeed as chairman of the Public Relations Committee.

They felt that the wind tower did not represent Muharraq. It showed housing that was common in Manama.

Hamada suggested the choice of Shaik Isa bin Ali house to replace the badgeer. The new committee decided to reverse the pearls, reduce the number to eight.
