ABU DHABI: Cooperation on higher education and scientific research and the exploration of academic opportunities were discussed on Wednesday by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and a visiting delegation from Canada's University of Calgary.
In remarks at the meeting which was attended by the Canadian ambassador, Arif Lalani, the minister underscored the need for any country to give males and females access to universities and, at the same time, to maintain quality higher education in order to produce output that lives up to the national responsibility of nation-building. The Canadian ambassador expressed hopes that higher education and scientific research cooperation between the varsity and the UAE's institutions will be promoted in the future. Founded in 1966, the University of Calgary is composed of 14 faculties with 34000 undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled. 6000 students, of whom 25% are Canadians, graduate every year, according to Dr. Edward McCauley, Vice-President of the University of Calgary, in remarks at the meeting.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2013.
