Muscat Municipality has imposed 961 fines in Greater Muttrah region under three different categories from January to June this year. Of these, 366 fines were related to violations in the health department.
The municipality also slapped 558 fines in the technical category whereas 37 fines were imposed in the administrative category. The municipality also recovered RO483,935 as fines in June. In a statement, Said bin Mohammed al Qassabi, acting director general of health department, Muscat Municipality, said that department officials inspected 581 restaurants and coffee shops in June.
"The health department also conducted raids on 51 bakeries, 25 supermarkets, 143 food stuff outlets, and 195 fruit and vegetable shops in Greater Muttrah in June."
The Greater Muttrah area, which comprises Ruwi, Darsait, Mumtaz, Sidab, Muscat, Wadi Kabir al Washal, and Muttrah al Tawyan generated 6,710-tonne waste in June. "Domestic waste, measuring 5,290 tonnes, tops the list followed by solid waste (860 tonnes) and agricultural waste (560 tonnes). To control rodents and other insects, the health department sanitised 6,194 houses in Greater Muttrah last month," Qassabi said. Muscat Municipality has also issued 1,129 warnings for violating various provisions till June-end.
The licensing department of the municipality has issued 216 new vehicle licences, renewed 582 licences and cancelled 103 licences of vehicles in Greater Muttrah in June. The department also issued 19 new licences to start establishments, renewed 609 licences and cancelled licences of 36 establishments.
