Lawmakers on Sunday welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah's instructions to the government to put forward a viable economic blueprint to spur growth in partnership with the parliament and civil society institutions.
In a letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Saturday, the King asked the government to draw up a clear 10-year perspective to uplift the economy from macroeconomic and monetary aspects and ensure consistency of approach to raise competitiveness, productivity and self reliance.
In today's Lower House session, chaired by Speaker Atef Tarawneh, and attended by cabinet ministers, the MPs noted that in all his royal messages and letters of designation to various governments, the King had a full sense of the concerns of and issues affecting the Jordanian citizens as he emphasised collective responsibility to stand up to challenges and ease economic burdens on citizens.
"In order that a real partnership exists among different national institutions, and in all circumstances, the House of Deputies should give due importance to the King's letter," said MP Suleiman Al Zabin.
"Royal messages are a beacon that should guide us, as government and deputies. Those letters always give hope and assurance for a better future," added MP Ali Khalayleh.
During today's session, lawmakers endorsed an amendment to the temporary higher education and scientific research bill under which one per cent of the annual net profit of the public shareholding companies will be allocated towards research funds. It tasked the Income and Sales Tax Department with collecting the contributions and transferring them to the fund.
The House also referred other bills to its specialised committees.
