KUWAIT, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- The Cabinet assigned Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy on Sunday to take necessary measures for building new electrical power plants to cover the country's demand.

In their regular weekly meeting presided by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, ministers reviewed a report prepared by the ministerial economic committee on the country's demand for electricity in the summers of 2007 and 2008 and necessary precautions and emergency procedures that needed to be taken in this regard.

The ministers also looked into a report presented by the Planning Ministry on measures to unify statistical population census and mapower data, and called upon related authorities to continue these efforts for sake of better coordination.

And out of the government's awareness of financial and administrative obstacles facing ministries and state bodies, the ministers reviewed a follow-up report on implementing recommendations of the Citizens Service and Government Bodies Assessment Agency pertaining to a study of the Audit Bureau on budgets and final audits for the fiscal year 2004-2005.

They also reviewed steps taken for implementing these recommendations as well as how to overcome obstacles that were faced during the process.

Moreover, the Cabinet welcomed the upcoming visit of Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Al-Siniora, which came in line with the two leaderships' keenness for boosting brotherly relations.

The ministers took note of two letters addressed to His Highness the Amir. The first was from French President Jacques Chirac inviting the Kuwaiti leader to attend the "Paris III" conference on Lebanese reconstruction, scheduled to be held in the French capital on January 25. They took note of His Highness the Amir's affirmation of significance of Kuwait's participation in this conference.

The second letter was from Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on developments between Somalia and Ethiopia and the efforts for peace in the region.

The Cabinet members discussed National Assembly affairs and questions and proposals made by MPs, as well as topics on the agenda of the next parliamentary session.

They also discussed political affairs in light of a report on Arab and international political developments.
