ABU DHABI, June 24th, 2013 (WAM) -- The Mafraq Hospital, owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), in collaboration with The Harvard Global Equity Initiative, recently held its Third Global Breast Health Lecture Series in Abu Dhabi.

With an invited audience of over 100 regional health-care professionals, the third lecture series featured breast health experts and non-governmental organizations from the UAE, Egypt and the USA, who came together to exchange ideas and share their views on advancements and challenges in early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The prime objective of the lecture series was to identify ways to increase awareness, early detection (screening), diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

The lectures included a number of discussions. The first panel session focused on challenges of early detection and brought together specialists from the public and the private sector in UAE who discussed current challenges of breast imaging.

The second session featured challenges in treatment and clinical referrals, and challenges in breast oncology and breast surgery respectively.

The third session featured Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) official Dr. Jalaa Taher, who presented the organization's vision and efforts in improving early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Sawsan Madhi, Secretary-General, Pink Caravan Initiative of the Friends of Cancer Patients highlighted the role of non-government organisations in closing any gaps in early detection and treatment, and Abu Dhabi resident Nawal Meghezzi shared her experience as a breast cancer survivor.

As part of Mafraq Hospital?s continued efforts in cancer prevention, the hospital launched the Ana Rosa campaign last year ? a health education and screening initiative exclusively for women. The programme provides information on screening procedures, preventative measures and tips for staying healthy. The programme also offers information on cervical cancer and other important health information targeted exclusively towards women.
