BEIRUT: The Energy Ministry pegged the electricity generator subscription rate for February at LL385 ($0.25) per kilowatt-hour, a statement from the ministry said Thursday.

Generator owners will also collect a monthly subscription fee to cover their fixed costs: LL15,000 for a 5-ampere subscription, LL23,000 for a 10-ampere subscription and LL30,000 for a 15-ampere subscription.

An additional LL5,000 will be added for every additional 5 amperes.

Consumers bills are calculated by taking the set fee plus the number of kilowatt-hours consumed multiplied by the subscription rate. Februarys rate was based on the price of 20 liters of green diesel, which was LL17,229.

According to the statement, residents outside of Beirut will have experienced more than 317 hours of power outages in February, averaging 4.5 hours a day.

In December, then-caretaker Economy Minister Raed Khoury called on consumers to tweet him the names of electricity generator owners who were not complying with the order mandating the installation of consumption meters.

The Economy Ministry also set up a hotline for consumers to report violations of the law, 1739. Complaints can also be filed on the ministrys website or through the mobile application Consumer Protection Lebanon.
