KUWAIT, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge project will contribute considerably to smoother and easier traffic at Al-Shuwaikh area, the Ministry of Public Works said on Sunday.

It will also ease the movement of trucks from Al-Shuwaikh Port to western, eastern, and southern areas by means of using the Doha Highway, assistant undersecretary of the ministry for road engineering Hussein Mansour told KUNA.

The project mainly aims to shortcut the distance to 37.5 km from 104 km between Kuwait City and Al-Sabbiyya City, he said.

The project includes a 37.5-km-long sea bridge extending from the crossroads of the Al-Ghazali Highway and Al-Shuwaikh as far as Al-Sabbiyya Highway, he added.

It also includes a 16-km-long sea bridge that passes through Kuwait Inlet westwards and Um Al-Namel Island as far as the Doha Highway, he added.

The project involves facilities for traffic, emergency facilities, a fuel station, and a boat dock on two artificial islands, he concluded.
