MUSCAT, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Undersecretary of Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense Sheikh Eng. Sabah Nasser Saud Al-Sabah and Kuwait Society of Engineers have won the awards of the 11th GCC Engineering Forum for excellence and creativity in recognition of their roles in the national project for rationalization of power and water consumption (Tarsheed).
Shihab Bin-Tareq Al-Said, advisor to Sultan Qaboos Bin-Said, of Oman, and sponsor of the forum, handed Sheikh Sabah Nasser and Chairman of the Society of Engineers Eng. Talal Motla'e Al-Qahtani the first award and the award of institutions respectively on the sidelines of the opening session of the forum here Saturday.
In an interview with KUNA here Sheikh Sabah Nasser expressed joy for winning the award and dedicated the award to "all brothers and sisters in Kuwait especially in the Society of Engineers."
He hailed the ongoing GCC Engineering Forum as "a landmark in the progress of the engineering profession in the Arab Gulf region."
"The forum allows exchanges of view and experiences in the management and development of private-, and government- run construction projects in the region," Sheikh Sabah Nasser added.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Society of Engineers said winning the award of the GCC Engineers Forum for creativity would constitute a big incentive for the society to make more creative achievements.
Al-Qahtani also hailed Tarsheep project as "unprecedented initiative for partnership between the government and non-profit organizations to save power and water resources."
"The project and its communication center were installed within ten days only.
"It warded off the risks of blackout during last summer and saved KD 66 million of the costs of power plant fuels," Al-Qahtani revealed.
Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) in cooperation with the Secretariat of GCC Engineering Forum and regional engineering associations kick-started the 11th GCC Engineering Forum Saturday morning under the title of "facing construction challenges - let's build."
