KUWAIT, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait national Swimmers topped on Sunday rankings after winning another 11 medals in the 8th Arab Swimming Championship held in Morocco.
Kuwait's medals increased to 33 in the third day of the tournament which witnessed participation of 15 Arab countries.
Kuwaiti swimmers won, today only, five gold, four silver and two bronze medals topping the overall rankings and was ahead of Egypt which ranked second with 13 gold medals and Algeria with nine gold medals.
Kuwaiti national swimmers broke four new Arab records to increase their total new records to 13 in this tournament so far.
In the 200-meters Individual Medley (IM) race for 12 years old category, Kuwaiti swimmer Saud Al-Tayyar won the gold and registered a new Arab record of 2.33 minutes, while his teammate Omar Al-Raish got second place in the same race.
In the 100-meter IM race Kuwaiti swimmer Yousif Al-Jimaz was able to won first place along with setting a new Arab record of 1:23.40 minutes.
In the 50-meter butterfly race Kuwaiti Abdullah Atallah won the gold medal and set a new Arab record of 31 seconds.
For the 13-14 years old group, in the 100-meter Breaststroke race Kuwaiti swimmer Ahmad Al-Bader set a new Arab record of 1:11.20 minutes.
Al-Bader also won the 200-meter IM gold in a record 2:20.23.
Talal Al-Hasawi won the gold in the 200-meter race for same age group with 2:21.51.
For the same age group, Kuwaiti swimmer Salman Qeli won a bronze in the 50-meter event.
The Kuwaiti team won first place and gold medal in the 4 X 100 relay race for the same age level with 3:57.44 topping Tunisia and Morocco national teams.
In the 200-meter backstroke for the (15-16) group, Kuwaiti Abdullah Al-Thuwainy won third place with a new Arabian Gulf record of 2:11.77.
Kuwaiti swimmer for the 18-years group Fahad Al-Bader won the silver medal in the 100-meter IM race, while his teammate Maqrzour Al-Salem won the bronze medal in the 200-meter event for the same age group.
For his part, head of Kuwaiti National Swimming Federation Sheikh Khalid Al-Sabah praised the achievements in the tournament, noting that such accomplishments were the result of relentless preparation, training and efforts.
Sheikh Khalid said in a press release that the Federation will continue to support such exceptional players in future to continue winning first positions and bring the best results in all arenas.
