KUWAIT: Modern countries are investing in innovative methods to eliminate waste. "We have to exploit waste-treatment technology. This waste, after being treated or recycled, may be used as an agriculture fertilizer or to generate energy," said Dr Fadhel Safar, the minister of public works and state minister for municipal affairs, during a workshop entitled 'Investing Modern Technology in Discarding Waste' held yesterday at the Kuwait Municipality. "Several foreign companies participated in this workshop, especially those with long years of experience in the field, giving Kuwait Municipality the chance to learn and apply these experiences in future," he added.
Modern technologies showcased during this workshop will definitely help treat waste. "In addition, we can also get used to treated waste by transferring it into a type of oil energy. This technology is useful in many aspects, and is also positive for the environment," said Jinan Boushehri, Member of the Municipal Council.
This technology has provided a chance by which waste will be disposed, "By using this technology, we will then reduce the space of land used as waste incinerators. Instead, we will produce clean energy which almost has no negative effect on the environment. We hope that such technology will be applied here in Kuwait to get rid of all kinds of waste," Boushehri further said.
Developed countries are classified according to waste production and the emissions they produce to local environment. "It's very important to raise and improve the awareness in this vital subject especially in Kuwait lately," noted Hashim Al-Shayia, Managing Director of UHI Company. Different video presentations were also showed and presented by representatives of different companies. Also, the American and Canadian embassies participated in this workshop. Richard Fish spoke about the municipal waste solutions, waste hierarchy, coal plant refueling, and other issues including the UHI's technology used in plasma gasification process.
Joe Schwager, Founder and Managing Director of Juniper Consultancy Services and the Independent Director of AlterNRG presented a video presentation entitled 'Independent Assessment of Plasma Gasification and the Competitive Strengths of AlterNRG'. "This is a safe, effective, and environment friendly technology. In addition it is a sustainable energy used for future generations. It is also an alternative source of energy used to meet increased demand for electricity from all over the world," he pointedout.
