KUWAIT, May 12 (KUNA) -- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Jamal Al-Shihab asserted on Monday that Kuwait is keen on providing a decent life for the disabled.

Al-Shihab's statement was presented by the Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development, Mansour Al-Mansour, during the opening of the Kuwaiti Project for the Disabled (We are for it) Conference.

Al-Shihab said that caring for the disabled is one of Kuwait's top priorities, recalling that Al-Nour school for the blind was established in the 1950s.

Since the first establishment of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the state of Kuwait set a complete and clear plan for training Kuwaitis to care for all handicap cases, he noted, referring to ongoing governmental efforts in presenting top services for the handicapped segma.

Meanwhile, Representative of Afaq educational Company and project sponsor, Ibrahim Al-Kandari, said that the project aims at providing a better life for all, especially the disabled, as ways of leading Kuwait towards a brighter tomorrow.

He added that the company provides educational services for the handicapped, "we seek facilitating all obstacles preventing them from leading a normal life."

On the other hand, a role model handicapped who have overcome his disabilities and excelled in his life, Kamil Abduljaleel, said that in 1981 the University chose him to present the graduating class speech, which to him became a "turning point" in his life.

He added that after his graduation, he was accepted in one of the top companies in the country, and he was able to lead his life normally and have a family of his own.

He also referred to the handicapped law, that it required some changes in some of its articles, calling upon the private sector to provide projects and programs for the disabled, in addition to establishing a specialized hospital for this section of the society.

The six-day conference includes several activities and exhibition.
