KUWAIT, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Directorate General for Civil Aviation will put into effect security measures regarding the allowable quantity of liquids, gels, and aerosols that can be carried on board aircraft by all passengers from Kuwait International Airport as of January 1, 2008.

The directorate added in a press statement that it was coordinating with the Ministry of Interior department entrusted with airport protection to implement the measures recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It said that passengers are only allowed to carry on board a quantity of liquids, gels, and aerosols in containers that do not exceed the capacity of 100ML each.

"Each container shall not exceed the capacity of 100ML, even if partially full," it noted.

According to the fresh security measures, those containers will be placed in designated bags provided by the airport authorities. The capacity of the bags will not exceed one litre ((20cm X 20 cm) and must be security researchable.

Flight crew members and staff who are required to perform their duties (in uniform) are exempt from the above measures while on duty at the day of travel.

Items such as prescription medicines, infant food, baby milk and formula, health diet foods in reasonable quantities required for the total duration of the flight taking into consideration the possibilities of flight delays or diversions are also exempt from the measures.

In addition, all liquids, aerosols, and gels bought from the duty free units at the airport or from onboard the aircraft are permitted through transit check points provided that they are placed in appropriate transparent bags marked with the name of the company or the airport of the origin and/or airline and clearly tagged with the purchase invoice.

The directorate reserves the right to reconsider or apply more strict security measures towards the carriage of liquids, aerosols, and gels including the sales of such items at duty free and onboard the aircraft, it pointed out.
