KUWAIT: The Freedom Journal reported that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that the prices of various commodities in the country will continue to remain high until 2015. Meanwhile though, a search of co-ops in different areas does not reveal any significant price increases. Instead, most co-ops are giving special offers and discounted prices on various goods. For instance, the Qadsiya Cooperative Society is offering up to 35 percent discounts on 75 different kinds of consumer goods.

The market is not stable, prices are affected by supply and demand," Ramadan, an employee at the Qadsiya Cooperative Society, told the Kuwait Times. "I can't say how it will change. I know that our prices are not high and instead we have many attractive discounts on food stuff, cleaning goods, paper products and others.

The Khaldiya Cooperative Society also started offering special discounts two days ago. "It's not true that the prices are high or increasing," said Mohammed Omar from the Khaldiya Cooperative Society.

We are having a sale for one week. We are offering discounts between 15 - 20 percent on approximately 30 products. It's not true what many people say, that the prices hike during the holy month of Ramadan or just before it. The prices drop during Ramadan. The prices are in normal range and I don't expect it to hike.

Abu Mohammed from the Rawdha Cooperative Society also denied any increase in prices. "The Rawdha Coop holds discounts on chosen products each month. The offer is usually held from the 20th - 30th of the month. It's not true that the prices hike in Ramadan, the prices decrease during the month," he noted.

The Sabahiya Cooperative Society is offering up to 40 percent discounts on many products. "Currently, we have discounts on tea, rice, cleaning products and many others products," said Husam from the Sabahiya Cooperative Society. "At the beginning of next month we will also have attractive offers. The prices will decrease even more before the holy month of Ramadan.
