CAIRO, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti official stressed here that His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is keen on supporting and spreading Kuwaiti culture, regionally and internationally.

Assistant Secretary General for administrative and financial affairs and services at the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL) Abdulhadi Al-Ajmi told KUNA His Highness supports learning and knowledge in all forms and has protected freedoms in Kuwait.

Al-Ajmi, who is heading Kuwaiti participation in the 40th Cairo International Book Fair that kicked off here Wednesday, said that the aim of taking part in such event is to spread culture and develop the creative and intellectual abilities of Arabs.

NCCAL's publications at the fair are proving highly popular, he added.

The fair is not a place to merely sell books, but a cultural event in itself, he stressed.

A total of 28 Arab countries, 12 foreign countries, 743 publishers, including 522 Egyptian and 178 Arabs, are participating in the fair.
