Amman - The Jordan National Union Party said on Sunday that the weekend summit between His Majesty King Abdullah II and US President Barack Obama had underscored the Kingdom's position on the Syrian crisis and "carried many messages to world capitals." In a statement released today, the party said that the royal vision presented to the US administration on the Syrian file has "dotted the I's and crossed the T's'" as it reasserted a political solution to avert Syria's sliding into sectarian strife and division and safeguarding regional security." "The summit has stated that Amman seeks to restore equilibrium to the Middle East region that international policy and the world capitals direly need and that military intervention will not bring international peace at all levels," added the statement.
It noted that during his stay in the United States, the King had used every opportunity in the service of pan-Arab causes, warning of the dangers posed by Israel's intransigence to the peace process with the Palestinians.
The statement said that King Abdullah, who carried Arab issues with a "comprehensive" vision to Washington, is fully aware of the gravity of the situation and the mechanisms to deal with these issues, and that any rash decisions would "reshuffle the cards in the region and not bring the aspired-for security and stability." It further said that Jordan's "realism" in dealing with key regional issues had made it clear that the political path can alone bear fruit, while military intervention would only wreak destruction.
