The Iran-Afghanistan railroad will be completed by the end of the next Iranian year (March 20, 2015), an Iranian official announced.

Deputy Managing Director of Iranian Railway Organization Hossein Ashouri also told IRNA that the Khaf-Herat track would be completed next year, and cargo would be transferred directly via railroad.

As one of the most important donors to Afghanistan, Iran has kept its promises to help rebuild the war-hit country.

Iran has built roads, power transmission lines and border crossings, among other infrastructure projects that would better link the two nations.

Tehran has also contributed more than $50 million annually to Afghanistan's anti-narcotics efforts in the last decade.
