Keralites in the Gulf, the largest expatriate community in the Middle East, have once again welcomed their state's harvest festival with various celebrations.

Eight Keralite associations supported the Indian Association in Dubai yesterday in holding their Onam celebrations at the Al Nasr Leisureland.

The group offered traditional Onam lunch menu such as Parippu, Sambar, Pulisseri, Rasam, Thoran, Koottukari, Avial, Pachadi and Payasam.

Onam has also taken to the Web. A series of e-Onam cards are also being offered free on www.nri-worldwide.com.

Also on the site are details about Kerala's biggest festival, and recipes for traditional Onam fare.

The portal, voted the Most Interesting NRI Site in an online poll, due to its content also won the iNova Award (New York) in the Community Portal category, and had previously won the Golden Web Award.

Meanwhile, Radio Asia is all set to entertain its listeners with a variety of Onam special programmes on its popular band 1575AM.

The station has lined up special programme catering to all tastes, upholding the rich Keralite traditions.

The entire programming will cover Atham, the first day of the 10-day festival, to Thiruvonam, the Grand Onam Day.
