Abu Dhabi, Oct. 13th, 2011 (WAM) -- Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has launched its "Islamic Arts" initiative on the sidelines of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The initiative includes a rich collection of books specialised in Islamic arts. The collection includes "Tratado de arquitectura hispanomusulmana (the Architecture of Mosques)," "The Art of the Islamic Garden," "Arab Dress a Short History: From the Dawn of Islam to Modern Times," "Islamic Textiles" and "Lustre Pottery: Technique, Tradition and Innovation in Islam and the Western World."Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Director of Kalima, said that these books "are exceptionally important in the context of their international authorship. The books have been published by major international publishers whom we had met in the previous sessions of Frankfurt Book Fair. They have been written by experts in Islamic architecture and arts, which makes it a real added value to the Arab library and a rich source for the development of scientific research related to Islamic and Arab civilization."Dr. bin Tamim stressed that the diversity of topics was taken into account in the selection of books. "The topics of the selected books cover important aspects in the world of architecture, textiles, fashion, gardening and pottery, making them a comprehensive guide to the Arab readers," said bin Tamim. "The task of translating them was assigned to a group of the best translators, who were carefully selected to have their accurate translations published at Frankfurt Book Fair because of its significance as the most important global event in the book industry," he added. Kalima published researcher Yedida Kalfon Stillmans "Arab Dress a Short History: From the Dawn of Islam to Modern Times", which has been translated by Dr. Siqqid Mohammed Jawhar. Patricia Bakers "Islamic Textiles" book, which has been translated by Dr. Siddiq Mohammed Jawhar, depicts many theses on Islamic textiles from the dawn of Islam to modern times through a scientific method which is based on the study of documents and analysis of images and illustrations. Kalima also published Alan Caiger-Smiths "Lustre Pottery: Technique, Tradition and Innovation in Islam and the Western World" which sheds light on pottery and its stance in past eras in a historical account in which the roles are being displayed throughout the Islamic civilization from the Abbasid rule to the State of Andalusia, through the Fatimid State and Seljuk State. The book has been translated by Amin Al Ayoubi. In its fourth participation in Frankfurt Book Fair, Kalima displays over 500 translated publications into Arabic from various cultures, sciences, literature in addition to children and youth books. The publications have been translated from many languages, including German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Kurdish, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and Russian. Kalima will also hold talks with a number of international publishing houses in order to translate the latest versions in addition to communicating with readers and showing them the latest techniques in the book industry.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2011.
