AMMAN -- During its weekly session yesterday, the Cabinet decided to appoint Sharif Faris Abdul Hamid Sharaf as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) succeeding Saleh Tayeh who had earlier submitted his resignation.

The Council of Ministers also appointed former Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Khatib and Sharif Ali Zou'bi as members in the bank's board of directors. The membership of Abdul Hamid Abdul Majeed Shoman and Basel Salem in the bank's board was renewed.

Also yesterday, the ministers named Emad Fakhouri, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) deputy chief commissioner, as chairman of the recently established Aqaba Development Company.

Ministry of Transport Secretary General Alaa Batayneh, president of the CBJ branch in Aqaba, Shafiq Abed, and Omer Jazi, a lawyer, were also appointed as members of the company's board.

During its session, the Cabinet delegated Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Azmi Khreisat to set the conditions required to float a tender to transport oil shipments from the southern port city of Aqaba to the Jordan Petroleum Refinery in Zarqa Governorate.

The Cabinet also decided to issue bonds for the Water Authority valued at $26 million to finance the installation of a new sewage network in the southern parts of the capital.

The Cabinet also approved three amended laws: the Penal Code, the Import and Export Law and the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation Law.
