Amman (Petra) - Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Salem Al Sabah on Thursday ended a two-day official visit to Jordan during which he co-chaired the Jordan-Kuwait Higher Joint Committee meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Hani Mulki.
The committee, which met on Wednesday evening, signed four agreements to regulate bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, tourism, culture and free trade, as well as a $68 million loan agreement for the Khirbet Al Samra Power Station.
At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Mohammad said the two countries had taken yet another step towards enhancing cooperation with the conclusion of the agreements. He said they held common views on the Iraqi question, and stressed the need for supporting the Iraqi people in their efforts to ensure stability and security.
Sheikh Mohammad also said Jordan and Kuwait have coordinated their stands on the Arab summit scheduled to be held in Algeria next month, saying the meeting would provide a good opportunity for Arab leaders to unify their stand in safeguarding the interests of the Arab nation.
Mulki echoed Sabah's remarks, saying Jordan and Kuwait hold similar views on the summit's agenda. With reference to Iraq, Mulki said the Kingdom supports the Iraqi people's efforts to establish democratic rule, expressing hope that Baghdad would open a UN-sponsored dialogue involving various factions to pave the way for a permanent constitution.
In remarks after the conclusion of the meeting, Minister of Finance Mohammad Abu Hammour said Kuwait's private sector is the second biggest investor in Jordan after France, noting that Jordan is deeply concerned with enhancing ties with Kuwait.
