Baghdad - Foreign Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Al Jaafari, submitted Iraq's instrument of accession to the Convention on the Prohibition of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May be Deemed to be Excessively Injurious or Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) in the presence of Assistant UN Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, Miguel Decerba Suarez, on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly session.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by All Iraq News Agency cited "It is worth mentioning that this convention is one of the most important instruments of international humanitarian law."

"Iraq's accession to it will contribute to strengthening efforts to rid all the cities of Iraq from the explosive remnants of war, and it will assist in the reintegration of the victims of these weapons in the community," the statement added.

"The Iraqi Council of Representatives agreed on Iraq's accession to the convention on December 12, 2013," the statement concluded.
