Unless Muslims find solutions to their causes, their life will become more complicated, noted Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's Advisor, in his speech during the opening of the 15th session of the Islamic Fiqh Academy at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel.
Sayyid Shihab also said that Islamic Fiqh was capable of resolving various issues of the contemporary life.
"The Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) would carry out its mission successfully, particularly that it comprises capable and respected scientists from all over the Islamic world," Sayyid Shihab hoped.
Over 150 intellectuals scholars in various Fiqh, cultural, scientific and economic fields in the Islamic world are taking part in the conference that will conclude on March 11.
He conveyed the greetings of the Sultan to all participants along with His Majesty's wishes for the session to succeed and arrive at desired results in the interest of the Islamic nation and humanity.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Oman's Grand Mufti said, "This gathering comes during a difficult time for the Islamic nation and pointed to the current social, economic and political developments".
He said leaders of the Islamic nation realised in their meeting held in Makkah in 1981 the need to establish a Fiqh institution to enable scientists and experts to discuss various issues.
Dr. Abdul-Wahid Balqaziz, OIC Secretary General said that the Islamic Fiqh Academy carried out a magnificent mission to consolidate Islamic thought, develop it and fortify Islam against internal distortion and external campaigns meant to shake Islamic constants.
He said some dangerous phenomena have been witnessed among Muslim sects. These phenomena, he added, include promoting fanatic ideas, religious extremism and atheistic Fatwa (advisory opinion).
He pointed to the external campaigns and called for amending religious address in Islamic countries and reforming educational curricula and altering Islamic culture.
He praised the considerable efforts extended by the Islamic Fiqh Academy to serve Islam and Muslims and shed light on a large number of Fiqh issues which directly affect the lives of Muslims and relations between the family and society.
