The local government said all future contracts will be awarded to contract compliant companies
Iraq's central Babil governorate will blacklist and bar contractors who do not execute projects on time, the governor said on Thursday.
Sadeq Al-Sultani said Babil's government is planning to form a commission comprising most local departments to identify contractors involved in such offences.
"This commission will prepare a blacklist of contracting firms that are found delaying projects or those who exceed the legal period agreed upon for executing projects and they will be excluded from taking any contract in the future," Al-Sultani was quoted as saying by the Iraqi news network Alsumaria.
"The commission and the competent departments will ensure that all future contracts will be awarded to companies reputed for their compliance with the contract," he added.
Al-Sultani said Babil's local government decided to take action against failing contractors because it is already suffering from long delays in receiving budget allocations for projects from the central government.
"Most of the 2013 allocations were approved as late as October and should be received by mid-December... Otherwise, the allocations will be transferred to the 2014 budget, which means Babil will be deprived of a large number of projects," he said.
