AQABA (Petra) -- The Iraqi government will rely on Aqaba Port to transport goods from Egypt to the Iraqi market due to reasonable transportation costs, Iraqi Transportation Minister Amer Abdul Razzaq said on Monday. He added that the Arab Bridge Maritime Company will be granted exclusive rights to transfer goods from Egypt to Iraq.
He indicated that Iraqi imports through Aqaba will increase during the phase of Iraq reconstruction which will also increase trade volume between the two countries. Abdul Razzaq said that the Iraqi government is ready to establish joint transportation companies with the private sector in Jordan. During a visit to the Aqaba Container Terminal by Transport Minister Sahel Majali and the Iraqi official, Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) Chief Executive Officer Emad Fakhouri said the transit goods to Iraq enjoy 40 per cent discount of handling fees.
