MUSCAT -- India's Yashoda Hospital, based in Hyderabad, is planning to expand their services to Oman with an investment of nearly RO 26 million in various phases aiming to tap on the thriving outbound medical tourism in the country.
The first stage of the multi-phased projects will see an information centre to be set up in Muscat aiming at gauging the needs of the Omani healthcare sector and to guide the patients needing cardiac care, in the coming months, according to the senior management of Yashoda.
"We are planning to expand our services to the Sultanate of Oman with a specialised cardiac centre costing RO 6.4 million approximately in the next coming years as we found there is good potential for a specialised centre for heart diseases in the country. We have been treating Omani patients for the last couple of years and with this venture, we want to get closer to the Omani community", Dr Abhinav Gorukanti, Head-International Services told the Observer.
Speaking on the sidelines of the CME (Continuous Medical Education) on 'Medical Advancements in Spine Surgery, Oncology, and Orthopaedics for affordable and quality care' organised by Yashoda in partnership with the MedTourism of Travel City Travel Point, Dr Abhinav said that the project will be implemented in three phases the launching of which will be with an information centre that measures the medical needs and patients inflow.
"This massive project will take-off with an information centre to guide the Omani patients and to gauge what kinds of specialties are required which will take place in next 3 to 4 months. Following this, we will take off with the second phase with a specialty centre for cardiac patients in Oman which will have a full-fledged cathlab and cardio-thoracic centre costing RO 6.4m and manned by some experienced hands from India who will work round the clock". Following the second phase, the group will further expand their presence in Oman with a multi-specialty hospital in the upcoming Medical City in Barka.
"A multi-specialty hospital is also being planned in the Medical City that is coming up in Barka where all our specialty services will be made available. The cost of this project is estimated at RO 19.2m approximately and we will further expand the services into lung and kidney transplantation centres and various other specialties for which we have an unmatched name back in Andhra Pradesh".
During his recent visit to Oman accompanied by Dr Chandrasekhar, Chief Operating Officer; and Gokul Prem Kumar, DGM -- International Services, the management team of the hugely successful heart and lung transplant center back in Hyderabad had visited some senior officials from the MoH as well as the ROP and discussed their plans for Oman.
