To facilitate and en-courage foreign nationals including Omanis to visit India for tourism, business and other purposes, the Government of India has announced changes in the existing visa rules in order to liberalise, simplify and rationalise the visa regime. A special window has also been opened to process medical visas.
At a special Know India Seminar organised by the Indian Embassy and India Tourism, Dubai, Puneet Sharma, First Secretary (Consular) said that during the period January-July 2017, the embassy had issued over 49,000 visas to Omanis, including 31,900 tourist visas. This was in addition to a significant number of Omanis who were now getting e-visa for India through a completely online procedure.
The seminar was attended by about 120 officials from the Government of Oman, representatives of Tour Operators, Airlines and other stakeholders in Oman, involved in facilitating the visit of Omani travellers to India. In a detailed presentation Sharma familiarised the participants with visa regulations introduced by Government of India to simplify the process of getting a visa for India.
Elaborating further, Sharma said India is a land of incredible cultural diversity many languages, customs and beliefs, and an unending variety of cuisines and handicrafts.
India Tourism Dubai assistant director IRV Rao, in his presentation highlighted the attractiveness of Incredible India and how the country is a preferred tourism destination for foreign tourists.
He added that a notable feature of the people-to-people contact between India and Oman in recent times has been the increasing tourist flow to Incredible India from Oman.
In recent years, India has also emerged as a preferred destination for medical and wellness tourism, with numerous Omanis choosing India for their medical treatment at various state-of-the-art hospitals.
