Tehran, June 14, IRNA - Construction of Iran Gas Trunkline VI (IGAT VI) would give a boost to Iran's capacity in gas exports to Iraq, a senior official said.
Ali-Reza Gharibi, managing director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company, said construction of the second section of the pipeline would be also of help in sustained gas delivery to western and northwestern Iran.
He said the project is estimated to cost $2.2 billion, adding that IGAT VI is among the top priorities of his company in the current calendar year to March 2016, Shana reported.
IGAT VI starts from South Pars gas field reaching Dehgolan after crossing Khozestan, Lorestan, Ilam and Kermanshah provinces.
An IGAT-6 offshoot will raise the volume of gas export to Iraq. National Iranian Gas Company will start gas exports to Iraq with 4 mcm/d in the first phase and will raise the volume gradually.
A 25-year contract between the two countries will provide the opportunity for boosting gas exports to as much as 40 mcm of gas per day.
The IGAT VI offshoot, spanning 100 km, for gas transfer to Iraq starts from Charmaleh in Ilam province and ends in Naftshahr in common border with Iraq.
