To train qualified staff for serving health, safety in construction sector

Abdul Rahman Jawahery, GPIC General Manager launched The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) in the construction sector at the House of Lords, UK. Jawahery's participation took place in his capacity as NEBOSH ambassador.

The NEBOSH certificate in the construction sector is considered as the latest NEBOSH product designed to train qualified staff for serving the construction sector in the fields of health and safety, as this sector is notorious for the large number of accidents and fatalities that take place in it around the world. This certificate serves as the missing link in NEBOSH certificates that seek to enhance the performance of health and safety in all sectors, with special emphasis on the construction sector.

Jawahery's participation took place at the invitation of David Morris, NEBOSH Board Chairman and the event was held under the auspices of Lord Brum Indfoe.

During the event, Lord Broughamd Vaux congratulated NEBOSH for the launch of the new certificate and thanked Abdul Rahman Jawahery for his participation in this event that demonstrated his commitment to health and safety and the need to create base of specialized professionals in this field for the protection of lives, reducing losses and preventing injuries. David Morris expressed his thanks to Abdul Rahman Jawahery, his acceptance of NEBOSH's invitation and effective participation in the launch of this certificate.

The launch of the NEBOSH Safety Certificate for the construction sector included an opening speech given by Lawrence Waterman, General Supervisor of the Olympic Games 2012 in London  who reviewed the size of the construction works involved in the Olympics project and the excellent timing of the issue of this certificate, as the principal aim of the project is to complete the entire project without any fatalities or  serious injuries, given that more than 10,000 workers will be involved in the construction of the project.

Jawahery said GPIC's participation in the launch of the NEBOSH Certificate for Safety in the Construction Sector was part of the company's policy of supporting all efforts aimed at improving working conditions especially with respect to safety and health of workers and protecting them from industrial accidents. This is made possible through the qualification of trained technical personnel who are able to identify the areas of risks and who can provide the preventative solutions for avoiding them.

The company firmly believes that such culture cannot be achieved except through the availability of qualified human resources to implement the preventative safety principles at the workplaces.

Jawahery noted that such step was part of the company's policies of supporting the Bahrain Labour Ministry in developing the appropriate methods and qualified personnel concerned with health and safety, especially with the current construction boom in the Kingdom and the growth of industrial and construction projects in the Arabian Gulf region.

Jawahery said that the prominent role played by the Bahraini industry in the area of health and safety and the international achievements of both GPIC and Bapco dictate upon them the need to effectively support all the efforts designed to promote health, safety and qualification of workers in this field that has become the mainstay of modern businesses.
