Some 662,000 tons of commodities worth $656 million were transited via Anzali Free Trade and Industrial Zone, Gilan province in the past Iranian year (ended March 19), showing a 12-percent increase compared to the figure for the preceding year, said the managing director of the zone.

Alireza Bahmani said that about 132,000 tons of goods were re-exported from Anzali indicating a growth of two percent compared to the figure for the year earlier, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

Bahmani further stated that some 4.981 million tons of goods were imported during the period, showing a significant drop compared to that of a year ago which was 6.078 million tons.

The major part of Anzali's transactions pertained to Caspian Sea littoral states, the Caucasus, Persian Gulf littoral states, north and eastern Europe, Latin American states and African countries, he noted.

Bahmani listed mineral, herbal, chemical, plastic, food and textile products as the export items, adding raw material used by the factories in Gilan province are the main goods imported through the region.

Referring to the advantages of investing in the zone, he said that supporting domestic producers and investors is the most important strategy adopted for the region in the current year which was named as the 'National Production, Supporting Iranian Labor and Capital' by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
