Islamia English School
Islamia English School in Abu Dhabi was one of the many which reported a record performance in IGCSE O' Level exams. Their 71 students including 36 girls and 35 boys sat in the exams, administered by Edexcel International.
Hira Anis topped the school by securing 10 A's. Maria Idrees got nine A's, followed by Faisal Usman Memon with eight A's. Asad Arslan Ul Haq scored seven A's while Manal K.A. Najy, Nasrin Ansar, Sana Masood, Adeel Mohammad Malik, Ahsan Qayum, Hamood Ur Rehman and Mohammad Sohaib Ali Siddiqui obtained 6 A's.Aisha Mohammad Ashraf, Zunera Rashid and Syed Hannan Sohail Qadri got five A's each. Nusra Rafi, Zuha Mohammad Saeed, Hamza Qayum, Junaid bin Naseer and Mohammad Osama Ali Siddiqui obtained 4 A's. Jameela Abdul Hameed Maricar, Sahar Arshad, Samanta Firoj, Sara Masooma Toor, Faisal Imran Rashid Shaikh, Mohammed Samirul Karim and Syed Ali Hammad each secured three A's. Anam Nafees, Asma Tanvir Ahmed Khan, Itra Rafi, Samira Ahmed Behi, Shahzadi Basma Anaam Raza and Shaikh Mustafa Latif each scored two A's.
Cambridge High School
Lalitha Suresh, supervisor of Secondary School at Cambridge High School, Dubai, said females overwhelmed their male counterparts although the school showed overall satisfactory result in the examinations. The school achieved a pass rate of 98 per cent in the IGCSE O' Level and 93.4 per cent in A Level Examinations held in June 2003.
At the IGCSE (Grade 11) tests, Sumaiya Maklai and Anuradhi Chandrasekere topped, both scoring seven A+ and an A; Dina El Moshneb with five A+, two As and a B; Sukaina Badami four A+, three As and a B; Pooja Jatwani four A+ and three As; Ahmed Sherif Hosny with four A+, two As and a B; Mehreen Nabi three A+, three As and a C, Sara Qasim with three A+, 3 As and a B; Yusuf Beebeejaun three A+ and four As; Huzaifa Ashraf Osman with three A+, three As and two Bs; Mustafa Abdul Rehman Aly two A+, four As and two Cs; Sulan Fernando two A+, four As and a C; Fawad Hayee one A+, six As and a B; Mammen Eapen John one A+, six As and a B; Rahil Durrani one A+, five As and two Bs; Ruvana Fonseka one A+, five As and two Bs. Pupils who achieved outstanding results in A Levels include Karan Asnani with 4 As, Waqqas Arif with two As and two Cs, Fahd Iqbal with two As and a B, Masood Anas with two As and a B, Kushnuma Koita with two As and a B, Mohamad Zulqarnian Qureshi with an A and two Bs, Taha Suttarwala with two Bs.
Al Ain Juniors
For the third year running now, Al Ain Juniors have scored 100 per cent success in IGCSE in May-June 2003 GCE 'A' Level and IGCSE examinations, according to Tanveer Arshad, the school principal. He applauded the students for their excellent performance as over 70 per cent of the students have scored A+. Thirty students sat in the exams.
Shahriar Maanisaad topped the list among boys by scoring seven A+ and one A, followed by Ahmed Muhammad Amin with one A+ , five As and a B. Shaikh Imtiaz Ahmed achieved five As and one B; Adarsh Anand , one A*, three As and a B; Zahid Hussain one A+, two As and three Bs. Among the girls, Mariam Rizk topped the list, scoring two A+ and one B, followed by Anum Mohd Masud Ul Hassan, with two Bs. Bilkis Hussain, an A and two Bs while Samira Khalid achieved one B.
In GCE 'A' level, students of Al Ain Juniors also performed well in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Among Boys, the top notchers were Mohammed Yehia with four As; Ahmed Zahid three As and one B; Haseeb Ashraf two As and one B; Mohd Rafey two As and one B; Naeem Wajih two As. Among the girls, Faeeza Jawaid topped the list by scoring one A and two Bs; and Amna Haq with two Bs.
Our Own English High School, Al Ain
Al Ain's Our Own English High School also posted a 100 per cent passing rate for its 22 students who took the IGCSE exams in June. Moreover, 26 per cent of all grades are A+, 60 per cent are either A+ or A, and 81 per cent are A+, A and B. Saher Mirza Baba topped the school with all seven A+, while Sadia Azam obtained six A+ and two As. Saher Ihsan, Jazaib Hussain and Varsha Jumari obtained three A+ each, while Ibrahim Wasfi, Saffah Shahzad and Abu Tayyab each gathered two As.
Oxford School, Dubai
The Oxford School notched up another notable academic success this year with a 90 oer cent pass rate in the 'O' Level examinations. Outstanding achievers included Hajar Khaled Sheded, who got seven A-star grades and an A, and Mahmoud Amr Al Naggar, who got an A-star and an A.
What the GCSE is all about- GCSE is a British exam usually taken by 16-year-olds.- A-star is the highest possible grade for the GCSE- GCSE subjects have different tiers aimed at students with different levels of ability.
