Fujairah, 12 May 2011 (WAM) - The Fujairah Crown Prince, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, received today the organising committee of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi for the traditional sword competition (Youla).
The meeting falls within the framework of Sheikh Mohamed's efforts to preserve and promote the traditional sports of the Emirati people. The sword sports have been practised for hundreds of years by tribes in the mountains of Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah and in neighbouring Oman. Sword skills are also demonstrated at Emirati weddings. Later, Sheikh Mohammed also welcomed the Taekwondo team of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi Boxing and Taekwondo Club.
