JEDDAH - The first Foodex Saudi exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Fuhaid, Saudi Deputy Minister of Agriculture. Taking place at the Jeddah Centre for Forums and Events, the 4-day event that opened Sunday attracts more than 300 brands from 27 countries, all eager for their slice of a $70 billion market opportunity.

Foodex Saudi, which is under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture KSA, represents the largest industry event of its kind in the Kingdom. It is organized by Reed Sunaidi Exhibitions, a joint venture between the world's largest event organizer Reed Exhibitions and Sunaidi Expo, a division of Alfadl Group.

"We thank His Excellency Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Fuhaid and the Ministry of Agriculture for their support of the first Foodex Saudi exhibition. The Saudi food and beverage industry is in the midst of a boom and is forecast to grow significantly over the next five years to not only sustain domestic demand, but meet its international export potential too. Foodex Saudi aims to connect international brands to this ripe market opportunity while showcasing Saudi Arabia's potential as a global F&B hub," said Simon Blazeby, Director, Reed Sunaidi Exhibitions.

With a growing population, increased consumer spending and significant public sector investment in new malls, restaurants and hotels, Saudi Arabia's rapidly expanding F&B industry is a goldmine waiting to be tapped. Food sales in the Kingdom account for around half of the domestic retail market and are expected to be worth almost $70 billion by 2016, with food consumption growing at a CAGR of 2.6 percent from 2012 to 2017. Despite being the largest F&B market in the GCC, the Kingdom relies heavily on imports to meet its growing consumption requirements.

Representing almost every sector in the F&B industry, Foodex Saudi offered a full spectrum product showcase with everything from food ingredients, prepared meals, gourmet and organic to health foods, food technology & packaging, confectionery & baked goods on display.
