Dubai: Filipino Muslims in the UAE have been spending the past month preparing for a bigger and more challenging Islamic Quiz Bee on the second day of Eid Al Adha at the Jamiah Al Islahi Centre in Al Ghusais.
Now in its third year, the UAE-Philippine Muslims Islamic Quiz Bee will be held with the support of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities. Some 60 contestants, aged six years and above, from different Islamic centres around the country will compete in the children, women, and men’s categories.
Organisers said they have outgrown their previous venue of two years due to increased interest in learning about the Quran.
“The last two years we noticed the venue was always teeming with people. So we had to find a bigger venue because of the overwhelming support of our Muslim brothers and sisters. We have also noticed this growing thirst for knowledge about the Quran, especially among new Muslims,” Omar Gentilezo, organiser of the event, told Gulf News.
Gentilezo said the new sets of questions will be more challenging this time, focusing on the verses of the Quran, Hadith (sayings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Seerah (Biography of the Prophet) and general information about Islam. Gentilezo said the event is also open to non-Muslims in keeping with the spirit of brotherhood and unity in the Filipino community. As audience members, they, too, can participate in a special question and answer portion about Islam and its teachings.
