MUSCAT: On the occasion of the Road Traffic Symposium held in the Sultanate of Oman, Europoles Middle East is introducing the first crash friendly street lighting pole into the Omani market. Street lighting poles are often involved in serious accidents. The costs of damaged property and especially the high emotional and social costs of injuries and fatalities are getting into the thousands and thousands of Omani Rials and leave families with sadness and sorrow.
To solve this serious problem, Europoles Middle East is introducing the crash friendly street lighting pole into the Omani market. The pole, which is made of a special fibreglass, has passed several certifications and crash test. It is officially approved by the European standard EN12767 for passive safety and has achieved the highest results for protecting the passenger from serious injuries.
"In some regions we see steel frames around poles to protect them from drivers.
"Our philosophy is to protect the driver from the street lighting poles. Our fibreglass pole is reducing the speed of the car without serious damages of the vehicle and it is protecting the passenger.
The poles will significant improve the passive safety in the Omani road system -- and they are able to save lives!" stated Alexander Braun, general manager of Europoles Middle East.
The first crash tests were done more than 30 years ago in Germany and the technology was continuously improved. The latest test was done at the TNO traffic crash test facilities in the Netherlands, where a car was crashed with 100km/h into the pole. The result was a reduction of the speed to approximately 60km/hour and protecting the car and passengers with a soft impact. The fibreglass material is approved for the harsh weather conditions in Oman, it is light weight, easy to instal and maintenance free.
Europoles is ready to supply the poles to municipalities, private projects and other government agencies in a short notice.
Europoles Middle East was launched in 2006 as a joint venture of Europoles GmbH & Co. KG (European market leader for pole systems) and RAY International LLC (market leader in Oman for innovative OHL solutions). In 2009, Europoles Middle East opened the first factory for spun concrete poles in the GCC region.
With a capacity of 40,000 poles and a range from five-metre to 40-metre length, Europoles Middle East supplies the full range of spun concrete poles for distribution and transmission as for railway tracks, floodlights, street lights, advertisement towers, mobile communication and antenna towers.
