Abu Dhabi, March 8th, 2011 (WAM) -- The Beach Club in the Emirates Palace hotel hosted this morning, Britain's former Olympic champion, Sir Steven Geoffrey Redgrave, who gave a fine presentation in front of a large number of students from different schools in Abu Dhabi, on the history of the Olympic Games.

He reviewed the main features of his experience in the Olympics and his five gold medal achievements during the Olympic Games in a row from 1984 to 2000.

The British champion also won three gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and nine gold awards at the World Rowing Championships, and is considered one out of four athletes who got the gold medal five times in the Olympic Games in a row in the kayaking sport. To Britain this is the greatest Olympic achievement ever.

Hans Olbertz, General Manager of Emirates Palace Hotel, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sir Steven Redgrave, and Emirates Palace is keen to towards the encouragement of young generation in Abu Dhabi to recognize such sportsmen and get closer and benefit from their experiences, which affected the history of sport around the world." He also encouraged the commitment of children to interact with the sports community and promote awareness about its importance through such meetings.

The meeting was organized in cooperation between Emirates Palace and British embassy in UAE.
