Ten new Egyptian ministers took the oath before President Mohammad Mursi on Sunday in the first reshuffle of the government of Prime Minister Hesham Kandil.
Among the key portfolios under the shakeup were the interior ministry, which went to Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ibrahim, who served under deposed President Hosni Mubarak, and the finance ministry which was assigned to Sayyed Hijazi who will have the task of negotiating the details of a $4.8 billion grant with the International Monetary Fund IMF to remedy the country's financial crisis.
The shakeup also included the ministries of supply and communications, transport, electricity and energy, local development, civil aviation, environment and parliamentary affairs.
Mursi convened the cabinet after the swearing in ceremony to discuss key files before the government, top of which are a deepening economic and fiscal crisis and security.
An IMF team arrives in Cairo on Monday to discuss support to help deal with Egypt's economic woes.
