CAIRO, May 18 (Reuters) - Egypt's agriculture ministry has bought 3.25 million tonnes of local wheat since the start of the local procurement season on April 15, it said on Wednesday.

Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, plans to buy 4 million tonnes of Egyptian wheat in the 2016 season. The country's local wheat buying season usually ends around July.

The ministry has said that the pace of procurement has accelerated since a decision by the government to open additional storage space.
